“Every person makes a difference – what difference are you making?” – Carlos Andrés Gómez
It was at the end of September 2009 when Jeff Perera first brought Carlos Andrés Gómez to Ryerson University to perform a special presentation of his vivid spoken word pieces centred around themes of masculinity, with each piece sparking discussion and reflection from the audience. After many laughs, tears, quietly shared personal stories, strong statements of release and powerful moments discussing men and courage, beauty, fear and freedom … Behind The Masc provided us with a night we will never forget. Carlos reflected the next day saying “Wow, what a special night last night. thank you Ryerson, thank you Toronto”.
Carlos returns to the space where it all started to once again deliver Behind The Masc, the keynote event for ‘What Makes a Man…’ the White Ribbon Conference at Ryerson University.
DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT!
The 2011 Urban Hip Hop Union Poetry Slam winner Buddhika Bellana will open for Carlos!!
Behind the Masc: with Carlos Andrés Gómez: A special interactive and intimate performance that looks at what it means to be a ‘good man’ in a world where ‘masculinity’ is confined by the narrowest of definitions. Carlos performs a spoken word piece addressing various themes around masculinity and then the audience shares provoked thoughts, their reflections and own related stories. It will also be an exploration of the powerful and beautiful things that can define manhood.
