Carlos Andrés Gómez releases his latest live album ‘Vitruvius’, see him facilitate and perform at the ‘What Makes a Man’ White Ribbon Conference

From ‘Vitruvius’ by Carlos Andrés Gómez

I’ll be anybody as long as it’s not nobody
I’ll be anybody as long as it’s not nobody

What is the measure of a man?

I think of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man
his sketched proportions of a man trying to fly, trapped
in a square trapped in a circle, why are we always trying to box in
the creative, ascending miracle of what we are?

we are more than the geometric lines prescribed to us as children

erase the square, paint over the circle, Leonardo, stop trying
to quantify who he is and let your Vitruvian Man live
let him break out and just show you, can’t you see
both his arms and legs are still moving?

release him Leonardo, so we can show you Vitruvius
show you that we are more than what we are merely worth
show you everything that we are.

Critically-acclaimed slam poet and recent Pushcart Prize nominee Carlos Andrés Gómez will release his highly-anticipated new live album of spoken word, “Vitruvius,” on Saturday, January 22nd at the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City.  In his new album, titled as an homage to the Roman architect who inspired Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man or “proportions of a man” sketch, Gómez deepens his grappling with many of the world’s most pressing social and political issues through the lens of masculinity.  Poetry slam legend Taylor Mali lauds the new album as being “full of eloquent intensity, unexpected humor, and a palpable love for humanity, even at its ugliest.”

“I wanted to see how far I could push the boundaries,” says Gómez, “I have never been more proud of anything I’ve put out.  This is two years’ worth of everything I have inside of me poured into a C.D.”

Only 333 individually-numbered hard copies of the album have been manufactured.  Carlos will be selling these limited copies at the show this Saturday! When those are sold out, “Vitruvius” will only be available for digital download through iTunes, CD Baby, and DigStation.
